Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

What is CHIP?

The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides free or low-cost health coverage to millions of Americans, including some low-income people, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The ASPIN CHIP Enrollment Program utilizes experienced navigators dually trained as community health workers (CHWs) to:

  • Increase the number of low-income children and families enrolled in health insurance,
  • Provide information and services in a fair, accurate and impartial manner to help children and their families that are enrolled retain coverage

ASPIN CHIP Enrollment Program navigators utilize mobile technology, a statewide toll-free call center, and website to make enrollment more convenient.

Who Qualifies for CHIP?

If your children need health coverage, they may be eligible for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). If they qualify, you won't have to buy an insurance plan to cover them.

CHIP provides low-cost health coverage to children in families that earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid. In some states, CHIP covers pregnant women. Each state offers CHIP coverage, and works closely with its state Medicaid program. In Indiana, children and teens up to age 18 are covered by CHIP.
